Right next to where James Mitchener hung out writing his novel Chesapeake (historic city of Cambridge, Maryland) is the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge where thousands of birds, especially waterfowl winter on the Eastern Shore - snow geese, swans, canadian geese, ducks, hawks, eagles - and even the now rare Delmarva Fox Squirrel.
