The saga of Shackleton and his 800 mile voyage which we retraced from Elephant Is. to South Georgia is incredible. The tiny spit of rock on craggy glacier capped Elephant Is that Shackleton's crew existed on for months is mind boggling. It is totally exposed to the raging Southern Sea, thousands of feet high hanging glaciers on both sides with a tiny scrap of rock and boulders where seals and penguins hang out when they are not feeding in the stormy ocean.
